Very professionally run, and the homestays are good. Was here for one week in May. I believe the quoted rates are old, now about $180 with homestay for a week. The teachers, all women, are very well trained in methodology, and as an English teacher i know this to be true. However, some of the teachers are weak in affect, which is important in language teaching. The afternoon excursionms are a bit of a joke.

I recented spent two weeks at this school and found it to be an average experience. The admin. and staff were helpful and friendly, but some instructors were overly structured and quite rote in their teaching style. The afternoon field activities were not particulary useful, especially if you were at a beginner level.

We had a great time studying at the Escuela Horizonte in Esteli for 2 weeks in July, 2011. The lessons were tailored for one beginner and one intermediate level student. The homestay was a great and friendly experience (we did hear that some other students stayed at more hostel type settings and we really enjoyed our family stay so request one or the other is you have a preference). We elected to participate in afternoon activities which consisted of 1-2 hours excursions to different community groups. Many of these trips were catered to our interests and made us feel connected to the community, learn more about the local culture, and also gave additional opportunities for us to practice our Spanish. Esteli itself felt very safe to walk around and easy to find stores, restaurants, ATM's etc. Also, took a side trip on the weekend to Miraflor with the help of Treehuggers which was a lot of fun. Very happy with our experience here!
