I loved this program, my only complaint is that I couldn't stay longer (stayed only two weeks).

I spent 6 wonderful weeks learning and perfecting my Spanish at LIVIT. What set this school apart was the interaction and relaxed learning atmosphere. In six weeks I never used English which made it a "true" immersion program. Most schools concentrate on grammar lessons and leave the students on their own to figure out how to practice. Not at LIVIT. There were grammar lessons but, they were done in a conversational setting so it wasn't just memorization. Then, there was the lunch time at various restaurants which was fantastic practice time. The practice didn't stop though as each afternoon I had a guide (supplied by the school) that would walk around Puebla with me. Sometimes we would just sit at a coffee shop and sometimes we would go shopping. It was my choice of where to go but most important was the one on one interaction allowing me to make all of my mistakes in a non-intimidating environment. Now, for the family. I was a very lucky student. I stayed with the wonderful family of Lupita. She is a GREAT cook! The entire family treated me as if I was a long time friend. I needed some dental work done while in Puebla and Lupita not only called her dentist, but walked with me and stayed with me throughout the procedure. I have attended other schools and can say with confidence that I learned more at LIVIT than the others. My recommendation to make things easier on you. 1) Have a plan of exactly what you expect to learn and send this to the school ahead of time. 2) Understand that you are in a foreign country. 3) Accept the customs, food, and manners of your host country and do NOT compare it to what are your customs. Remember you are there to learn and absorb. 4) Take each thing (good and bad) as a new experience. 5) If you want to really learn, no matter what your level - STAY IN SPANISH! I have attended similar schools in Costa Rica, Peru, and in Oaxaca and Morelia, Mexico -- each from three weeks to a month. I rank Livit the best of all I have attended. Outstanding features are the individual tours after classes, the facilities, and the highly personalized, small group instruction. For two weeks I was a "group" of 1.

The teachers are really superb. I recommend taking 4 hours of classroom lessons in the morning, and then taking a 2 hour tour of the city in the afternoon. During the 2 hour tour with a guide, I practiced what I had learned during the morning class. The guides are really excellent. They are trained to converse with students. I was at the school for two weeks and the school had me switch around guides so that I have experience speaking with different people. I really had a great experience and I would highly highly recommend the school to everyone.

The instruction, accomodations, host family, and tours were exactly what I was looking for in an active, high powered learning language lab. The two weeks were of VERY high quality with the instructors being knowledgeable and in tune with individual student needs. The host families were very engaged with the students and allowed the program to be very affordable. I HIGHLY recommend the Livit Immersion Center.

Which means that you go through a fully personalized course that is a perfect match both to the person and personality that you are, the interest that you have, all tailored to the level of Spanish language that you master. This is was a great experience for a beggining Spanish student like me. I love the small classes and the fun teachers. Everyone was so full of life and had a passion for teaching, you can't help leaving the program wanting to come back.

I would highly recommend this school. The instructor I had, Meru, was well prepared, patient, and had a sense of humor. The classes were well organized, and used music, film and lots of conversation. The excursions were excellent. Scott was extremely knowledgeable and used only Spanish when communicating. It was truly an immersion experience. My "family" was great! They were patient and only communicated in Spanish. The food was real good, the room was immaculate. I would highly recommend staying with Pacha and her family, which was only a ten minute bus ride from the school. This was the most complete immersion experience I have had!

Excellent school which really excelled at getting you to use what you've been taught in real-life conversation. I went to Mexico speaking very minimally, and after two weeks, improved tremendously in my vocabulary, listening comprehension, and most of all confidence in speaking. I met people on my travels who had been in other schools for significantly longer periods of time but couldn't speak very well at all, and I really think the difference is that at Livit you are forced to use what you are learning--it is not some theoretical exercise but really an immersion environment. Scott and Maru are very nice people and good communicators, and particularly good at getting you talking. The guides in the afternoons are a nice addition--they were all very warm people who give you a chance to practice what you learned. I think Puebla itself is an ideal place to learn the language as it is big enough to have a lot to see and have its own things going on, but its very manageable to get around. I stayed with Pacha and family and had a really awesome experience. The room I had was comfortable and private, but I felt very much like a part of the family when I was there and they were all extremely generous with their time as I practiced. (I think in addition to the classroom work, the time I spent talking with my family was essential to my rapid improvement.) I can't say enough about my Mexican family... truly awesome. I'm a pretty demanding student and expect a lot from a school if I'm going to hand over my money, and when I think about the progress I made in the language, what I learned about the culture and people, and the quality of my home stay experience, I think Livit is an excellent deal. Strongly recommended.

My daughter and I were blessed to have been able to attend this school for 2 1/2 weeks. In that time I learned more than in two years of taking Spanish at a Junior College. The teachers and owners were interested in what you needed and want you to get the most out of the experience. The program was comprehensive and priced right. I have been to another program in Costa Rica and this was much better. We liked the diversity of the day, class, lunch together and then walking and talking in Spanish with a guide while you discovered the awesome city of Puebla.

I really like this school.

I have studied at a number of different language schools in Guanajuato, San Cristobol de las Casas, San Miguel de Allende, Quetzeltenango and so far Livit is the best. I have also studied at the Spanish Insitute of Puebla. Livit is better for someone coming on their own, and this applies especially to women. It's safer because the owners are more actively involved in the school. Puebla is on all the lists of tourist cities in Mexico that have not experienced security problems. The quality of the classes at Livit is the best that I've found at any Spanish language school. The classes are tailored to you. At the moment there are relatively few foreign students and tourists in Puebla. So it's not the best time to come to meet tourists or people to travel with. That said, it's a good time to learn Spanish here. I highly recommend Livit for adults who need Spanish for professional reasons.

There are two best kept secrets in Mexico....This school and the city of Puebla. My husband and I just finished 5 weeks of classes at this school and found it to be fantastic! We had no idea what to expect of the school or of Puebla. We have been to 4 other schools in South America and Mexico and have found this one to be the best of all of them. It is a truly a immersion experience. The school is kept small and highly personalized. Really great facilities and super close to the heart of city. You are exposed to all kinds of accents and speeds of talking both in and out of the school environment. A very well thought out and personalized program. No big classes and continual talking.....this makes a huge difference! (right from the moment you walk into the school, the working lunches, the local individual guides to the excursions) Puebla is an amazing little city! Tons to see and do as well as a perfect central location to explore out of. Really safe place and culturally rich. We were really impressed with school and highly recommend it!

I spent only one week at Livit, but I wish I had been able to spend a month. The language lessons are very student-centered and were tailored to what I needed. There were not many students that week, and no one else was at my level, so I ended up with private lessons for the week. An amazing value for me, but it also meant a lot of work (which I was fine with, because I was fairly serious about improving my Spanish). Maru and Scott, the owners of the school, are involved and hands-on with everything. Lunches for the first three days of the week are spent in further conversation practice at local restaurants. The school is in a modern house with a comfortable lounge available for students, a couple of computers available (and wi-fi), and pretty little garden. Also, there is fresh, strong coffee brewed every morning (very important detail!!). My favorite thing about the program is the private guide provided for the afternoon (Mon-Wed). A lot of schools that I looked at offered other kinds of afternoon activities (salsa dancing, cooking, etc.) which might be fun, but didn't necessarily seem to offer as much opportunity for conversation practice (also, I don't really want to be salsa dancing with my compañeros :) ). The Livit program is special in that each student is partnered with a guide with whom you can explore the city, go shopping, sit in a cafe, go to a museum...whatever you want. The guides are mostly young graduate students or recent graduates and are very well trained to work with language learners and draw out conversation. On Thursday afternoon, Scott led an excursion to a local site. I did a home stay because I really wanted to challenge myself, and my hostess was lovely and very concerned for me. Also, she spoke not a word of English, so I really learned a lot just in my attempts at conversation with her. The breakfasts were amazingly delicious, and I had a private room with its own entrance and its own bathroom. Puebla is a beautiful, safe city with a lot of cultural activity and a cosmopolitan feel, but its centro is still compact enough to be easily walkable. While I was there, I heard almost no English speaking tourists (aside from my fellow students), so it is a great place to visit to be forced to practice your Spanish. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and museums in which to spend your free time (not to mention Lucha Libre and fútbol). In short, if you are serious about improving your Spanish and want to do so it a city setting, I highly recommend Livit. I felt I made a huge amount of progress even in the short time I was there, and I hope to return.

For me the program was a bit boring. Most of the students are older people. It was raining every day in Puebla, so be prepared if you travel during the rainy season. I was not a big fan of the restaurants we went for our lunch, I thought the food was not very good quality there. My host family was an old sweet lady but she did not cook much so I don't think I enjoyed the food as much as I should have. You do have a private tutor for a couple of hours Monday through Wednesday and you are free on the weekend. Puebla is a safe place but not many things are going on there. I realize that a lot of people like this program but I don't think it was a good fit for me.

I have a attended two other language schools and taken a number of course in Spanish. Livit is the only school I have attended that seems to develop their courses based on Adult learning theory. The four classes in the morning address grammar but in a context that promotes conversation. Lunch at a different local restaurant each day promotes conversation in an informal setting Three days a week in the afternoon each student is paired up with a "guide" that only will speak Spanish as he or she takes the student to museums and points of interest. Scoot and Maru, the schools directors, are able at a moments notice to change course content to better address a student's learning style. Wonderful school with extremely competent teachers and an outstanding program.

A fabulous opportunity to expand my Spanish skills with highly competent, flexible, creative instruction. Program design provides opportunity to share afternoons with private, Spanish speaking guides. Fellow students were fun and interesting. I stayed in a hotel, rather then with a family. All my fellow students were happy with their placements in homes. I would love to attend again.

Over the years, I have attended several Spanish immersion programs in both Mexico and Argentina, and Livit Immersion Center was by far the best. I participated in the four-hour morning instruction and my husband and I stayed in an on-site private apartment (more about that below). The full program offers lunch, two hours in the afternoon with guides to practice conversation and visit places in the interesting and historic City of Pueblo, a weekly excursion, and a homestay with a local family. The teachers at Livit are excellent. The school itself is bright and welcoming and comfortable. My husband, who speaks Spanish, and is a linguistic anthropologist, reported that he has seen a greater improvement in my Spanish than ever before. The whole atmosphere of the school is relaxed and permission is given to speak Spanish as best you can without feeling uncomfortable. At the same time, the lessons are aimed at speaking Spanish well, with a variety of activities and drills. Given that I seem to have a second language learning and speaking disability, I really appreciated the patience of the teachers. I also took the online classes offered by Livit via Skype for three days a week for a month prior to arriving in Puebla, and am currently taking a one day a week class since returning. I highly recommend these classes. They would be an excellent way for people who cannot travel to Puebla for the immersion program to learn or improve their Spanish. My instructor was very good at identifying my strengths and weaknesses and creating an individual program for me. The onsite apartment where my husband and I stayed while I took classes at Livit was great. The apartment was quite private and very quiet, especially since Mexico, in general, can be pretty noisy. It was located at the back of the main house and language school facility, all of which is on a private street. The apartment is reached from outside steps off a lovely side garden, and had an automatic light at night. While small, the space was very well designed. The lower floor has a nicely equipped kitchen with good counter space and a clever dropdown table, and a little sitting area with a comfortable couch, TV, and a good-sized worktable. The upstairs included a bedroom with lots of storage areas, and an enclosed. The apartment is light and airy and attractive, with lots of windows and a skylight, and you can see “Popo,” the volcano, outside the bedroom window. There is another smaller accommodation for guests at the front of the property. The area felt very safe, and was only a couple of blocks from the Plaza del Carmen, which is a pleasant leafy place to hang out, surrounded by a couple of coffee shops and an excellent ice cream store, with a zillion flavors.

I did a one week immersion at Livit in January of 2019. There were only 2 students in the class, both of us at about low intermediate, I guess. There were several other classes of different levels, each with 2 or 3 students. Maru, who is co-owner of the school, was our maestra. She is clearly an experienced and knowledgeable teacher in her methodology. Her patience with 2 old gringos (well, one of us was old, the other 'late middle aged') combined with her sense of humor and native knowledge of the language made the sometimes grueling 4 hour mornings pass quickly. On 3 days we had a wonderful lunch in the garden of the school. The school itself is located in a large old home in Col. Carmen, a very nice area of Puebla. I am disabled but found that I could walk from near the Zócalo of Puebla. There were 3 afternoons of one on one practice with our guia and a field trip on Thursday afternoon. This is my second time studying with teachers at LivitSpanish and I intend to take another 1 or 2 week intensive sometime later this year. I give them my highest recommendation for anyone wanting to learn Spanish in a pleasant and professional environment.

Attended first two weeks of April. Scott and Maru operate a great facility. Since I have not attended another school I cannot make a comparison, but their system of 4 hours of intense speaking interspersed with some grammar is challenging and fun. I had Maru for two weeks, the 1st week there were 2 of us and the second 3. She was very patient as I stumbled and mumbled my way through my attempts to speak Spanish coherently. The students eat lunch together and once each week go on an excursion with Scott. You can learn alot speaking with and listening to Scott. His spanish is laced with jokes and witty plays on words. After class on M W and F you spend 2 hours with a guide. You can walk around the city and see churches and museums and speak spanish with them are you can do as I did and sit in a bar drinking a beer or pulque and just talk. The alcohol loosens the tongue and the conversation flows. After two weeks of all spanish all the time I can now carry a conversation with native speakers where I can be understood and get my points across. Phillip
