This school has great teachers; they are very dedicated, intelligent and hardworking. The school however suffers from serious confusion, bad management, and a general lack of organization. The excursions are expensive and under planned. The only other afternoon activities are weak at best. The owner/operator needs to decide if the school is important enough to invest energy in, or forget it all together. Until such a time, I would give it a miss and head to one of several other language schools in the city.
Evaluation from love_oaxaca:
I feel that Vinigulaza is a great school. I had a fantastic experience there in 2009 and have been back on and off ever since. I do not think that this is entirely based on the teachers (who are great), these come and go as is normal, the school however continues to offer excellent classes that are interesting, fun and worthwhile. The homestays are excellent and the excursions are great value for money - 15 dollars for a day trip? seems good to me.
Evaluation from adam76:
I had an all round excellent time at Academia Vinigulaza. Their classes are great as you learn grammar through conversation exercises, they have written their own book which ensures a steady progression - you can really see how you improve on a daily basis. The classrooms are comfortable and well equipped, there is coffee, tea etc at break and free wifi. I took a cooking class, a film workshop and a trip. They were all excellent and well-priced. I stayed at The Learning Center one of the projects they support, something else that I liked - they definitely have a community spirit! If the school was in problems in the past they have overcome them. I highly recommend the experience.

This school is located right in historic Oaxaca. The ratings posted on this site seem rather low from what I personally experienced. Small class sizes, clean - bright - modern classrooms, and very competent and attentive teachers. Enjoyed several excursions and movie night. My home stay was wonderful and I was made to feel like a member of the family from the moment I arrived. My homestay was only a few blocks from the school and my host prepared tasty breakfasts each morning. The food in Oaxaca is amazing and the restaurants are very good with something for everyone. Overall this must be the best value for money of any spanish school in the Americas. This school is located in a truly magnificent colonial city with spectacular mesoamerican ruins 20 minutes from the city centre. No registration fee.
