We can use direct object pronouns in place of direct objects.

Direct Object Pronouns
me me
te you
lo him, it, you (formal)
la her, it, you (formal)
nos us
os you all (familiar)
los them, you all (formal)
las them, you all (formal)

Direct Object Pronouns can go either before the verb...

No lo oí, lo leí en el periódico.
      I didn't hear it, I read it in the newspaper.
Lo dijo por primera vez.
       He said it for the first time.
¿Quién lo manejó?
      Who drove it?

... or after the verb.

Yo vine a ver el paisaje. Yo vine a verlo.
       I came to see the landscape. I came to see it.
Ellos salieron a comprar los zapatos. Ellos
       salieron a comprarlos.

      They went out to buy the shoes. They went
       out to buy them.
¿Pudiste llamarlo?
      Were you able to call him?
