The verb tener (conjugation) means "to have". The preterite form of tener is irregular. The stem ten changes to tuv.

yo tuve (I had)
tuviste (you had)
Ud/él/ella tuvo (you/he/she had)
nosotros (as) tuvimos (we had)
vosotros (as) tuvisteis (you guys had)
Uds/ellos/ellas tuvieron (you all/they had)

Let's look at some example sentences:

No tuve tiempo.
I did not have time.

¡Qué suerte tuviste!
What luck you had!

¿Cuándo tuvo el último examen físico?
When did you have your last physical examination?

El avión tuvo que hacer un aterrizaje forzoso.
The plane had to make a forced landing.

Os dijimos que no tuvimos tiempo.
We told you all that we didn't have time.

Mis abuelos tuvieron diez hijos.
My grandparents had ten children.
